Routine activities that might be fun to do at home.

Calendar - things the kids can make and do on their own or with a sibling or parent for the duration we are away

- make your own calendar cards Yesterday was… / Today is…/ Tomorrow will be…

- make your own days of the week cards and practice putting them in order, have a parent or sibling mix them up and practice daily so you don’t forget the order

- sing days of the week song/ month song

- draw the weather each day

-practice counting by 1s, 5s, and 10s to 100 for those who do that easily and need a challenge count by 2s to 100

 Resources

Printable April calendar grid to colour weather on if you like or make or use a calendar at home

100 Chart - your child can print the numbers on the first one for a challenge and you can see what numbers they still print backwards and practice to improve with no reversals

Option two is a chart with all 100 numbers all ready printed in and your child can touch and say each number as they count just like we do every day at school.

 Journals usually done Mon/Wed/Fri

Journal – Using interlined paper is ideal but if you don’t have it draw lines on plain paper.
Below are the expectations we would talk about before the students began to write if in class.

• think of something relevant to write about

• orally say what you are going to write down a few times so the word order is consistent

• leave spaces between the words you print and skip lines

• print using lower case letters except when starting a sentence or in a name

• most of the children were beginning to write 2 sentences about the same subject

•*Challenge - for those with an increased sight vocabulary encourage 4 or more sentences
• **** Encourage your child to use the Word Wall on this site

Picture Time to go with journal

• draw a picture, using a pencil, that illustrates your words

• think of details you can add to your illustration, is the picture of something inside or outside

• color your picture using appropriate colours, colour going in one direction

*If your child is not leaving spaces between words or is at an emerging level you can

• have your child tell you what they are going to write and then draw a line for each word so they can see the space between words

• have them point to the lines and retell their sentence, do this several times so that their message stays consistent
